About the Artwork
Land of freedom, independence and generous portions. The artists wanted to encapsulate the concept of the cliche of ‘American Pie’ in a simple instantly gratifying image. Art as fast food.
It is inspired by Britain – They love the British comic from Dundee the Beano and wanted the pie to look ‘messy and highly calorific but also delicious and irresistible’. A feast for the eyes.
It is inspired by America – Outsider Claes Oldenburg’s found pop objects and Jasper John’s messed up ‘Stars and Stripes’.
Love the union. Love the song – love the concept – love the pie.
